When measuring for window shades, the first thing you must do is decide if you want to mount your window shade on the inside or the outside of the window frame. It is important that you measure in 3 places for width and 3 places for length, then write the narrowest measurements down for size.
Roman shades are 1/2 inch smaller in width than the size listed to insure a proper inside mount fit. So if your largest width measurement is 35 1/2″, then you will need to purchase a 36″ wide shade. Roll up shades are the actual width listed.
